Child Safety Policy for Carnival Dance Challenge

At Carnival Dance Challenge, the safety, welfare, and well-being of all children and young people are our highest priorities. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment that promotes inclusivity, creativity, and enjoyment for every participant. This Child Safety Policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding children and maintaining their rights and dignity during all aspects of our competition.

Scope This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, judges, performers, audience members, and any other individuals involved in our dance competition activities.

Principles

We are committed to the following principles:

  • Ensuring the safety and protection of all children and young people.

  • Respecting the rights, dignity, and worth of every child, regardless of their background, gender, ability, or cultural identity.

  • Maintaining a child-safe culture where concerns about child safety are promptly addressed.

  • Complying with all relevant laws and child protection standards.

Code of Conduct

To uphold a safe and respectful environment, all participants, including staff and volunteers, must:

  • Treat children and young people with respect and dignity at all times.

  • Avoid any conduct that may be perceived as harmful or inappropriate.

  • Refrain from physical punishment, emotional abuse, or inappropriate verbal interactions.

  • Avoid one-on-one interactions with children in private settings.

  • Follow all competition rules and safety guidelines.

Child Protection Procedures

To ensure the safety of children, we will:

  • Conduct background checks for all staff, volunteers, and judges working directly with children and ensure WWCC.

  • Ensure that staff and volunteers are trained in child protection and understand their roles and responsibilities.

  • Maintain a clear process for reporting and responding to child safety concerns.

  • Encourage open communication, so children and young people feel safe to speak up if they have any concerns.

Risk Management

We identify and manage risks related to child safety by:

  • Ensuring secure, monitored, and appropriate dressing room facilities.

  • Conducting venue safety assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

  • Implementing appropriate supervision ratios for all activities.

Photography and Media Consent

To protect the privacy and safety of children, we:

  • Obtain parental or guardian consent for the photography or video recording of participants.

  • Clearly communicate how and where media will be used.

  • Restrict the use of photography or filming devices in designated areas, such as dressing rooms.

Reporting and Responding to Concerns

If a child safety concern or incident arises, we encourage immediate reporting to the designated Child Safety Officer. Reports will be handled sensitively and in accordance with legal obligations.
